Organic Borage Herb is prepared from the green aerial portions of Borago officinalis, an unmistakable Mediterranean herb with a long history in European herbal traditions. This product is the dried borage herb — not the purple-blue flowers only — and is intended for traditional herbal preparations.

Borage has been cultivated as both a culinary and medicinal herb for centuries. The aerial portions have a mild, green and distinctly herbaceous character and have traditionally been prepared as infusions and incorporated into herbal blends.

A Traditional European Herb

Borage has a particularly interesting place in European herbal history. Traditionally associated with courage and good spirits, the plant developed a reputation as an uplifting and restorative herb and appeared in European herbal preparations for generations.

The herb has also traditionally been used in preparations associated with the respiratory system and as a mild diaphoretic to encourage perspiration.

Borage Herb vs. Borage Flowers

Borage is famous for its striking star-shaped blue-purple flowers, but those flowers are not what we offer here. Our Organic Borage Herb consists of the dried green aerial portions of Borago officinalis. The appearance, flavour and traditional preparations of the herb are therefore different from products consisting specifically of whole borage flowers.

Borage Herb has a mild, green and slightly earthy flavour and can be used on its own or as part of a traditional herbal blend.
