Organic Sencha Green Tea – Fukamushi from Kagoshima, Japan

Organic Sencha green tea is hand harvested in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, with a refreshing aroma and a clean, harmonious balance of sweet, umami, and gently bitter flavours. Our Sencha is a Fukamushi (deep-steamed) Japanese green tea, producing a rich, smooth cup with beautiful depth and character.

This Sencha green tea is deep steamed using the traditional Japanese method called Fukamushi. The leaves are generally steamed two to three times longer than standard Sencha, softening the leaf structure and creating the characteristically shorter, more broken appearance of Fukamushi tea. This deeper steaming produces a richer, more opaque infusion with pronounced umami, a smooth mouthfeel, and less astringency than many traditionally steamed Sencha teas.

Sencha green tea is valued for its clean taste and balanced character. It naturally contains caffeine alongside L-theanine, an amino acid naturally present in tea leaves. This combination contributes to Sencha's distinctive character and makes it a popular choice for those looking for a refreshing alternative to higher-caffeine beverages. Sencha is also naturally rich in plant compounds called catechins, including EGCG, a type of polyphenol with antioxidant properties. Green tea has been enjoyed for centuries in Japan and remains an important part of everyday Japanese tea culture.

Sencha tea offers a smooth, full-bodied infusion with vegetal freshness, natural sweetness, pronounced umami, and gentle astringency. Enjoy it traditionally prepared, as an everyday hot tea, or cold brewed for an exceptionally refreshing cup.
