Chaga Mushroom (tea cut) - Canadian Wild Harvested
Ask a QuestionWild Harvested Chaga Mushroom from Canada – Inonotus obliquus
Wild Harvested Chaga Mushroom is sourced from Canada, where Inonotus obliquus grows naturally on birch trees in northern forests. Recognized by its dark, charcoal-like exterior and rich golden-brown interior, Chaga has a long history in traditional northern herbal preparations.
Our Canadian Chaga is prepared in small tea-cut chunks, carefully sized to allow water to reach the mushroom material while remaining large enough for convenient straining and repeated brewing.
Wild harvested and minimally processed, these distinctive chunks are ideal for preparing traditional Chaga tea, concentrated decoctions and tinctures.
A Remarkable Mushroom of Northern Forests
Chaga grows primarily on birch trees in cold northern regions, including Canada, Scandinavia and Siberia.
Unlike the familiar cap-shaped mushrooms, Chaga develops as a hard, irregular mass on the trunk of its host tree. Its rough black exterior resembles burnt wood, while the interior reveals a beautiful rusty-golden colour.
Chaga has been used for generations in traditional preparations throughout northern Europe, Russia and parts of Asia, where it is commonly simmered in water to produce a rich, dark infusion.
Naturally Occurring Antioxidant Compounds
Chaga contains a variety of naturally occurring compounds, including polyphenols, polysaccharides and melanin-associated pigments.
These constituents have attracted scientific interest for their antioxidant activity and other biological properties.
Although Chaga is sometimes described as an adaptogenic mushroom, research into its effects in humans remains limited. Traditional use and laboratory findings should not be interpreted as evidence that Chaga treats illness or improves the body's response to stress.
Small Tea-Cut Chunks – Perfect for Brewing
The size of Chaga pieces makes a meaningful difference in preparation.
Our tea-cut chunks are small enough to provide good contact with water during slow extraction, yet substantial enough to remain easy to strain and reuse.
Unlike finely ground Chaga powder, these pieces are particularly convenient for traditional simmering, repeated brewing and preparing mushroom tinctures.
The resulting tea has a rich amber-to-deep-brown colour, with earthy, woody notes and a smooth, naturally mild flavour.

Brewing Recommendations
Traditional Slow-Brewed Chaga Tea
Add 1½–2 tablespoons of Chaga chunks per litre of clean water to a glass, ceramic or stainless steel pot.
Heat gently to approximately 90°C, just below boiling. Remove from heat, cover and allow the Chaga to steep for at least 3 hours, or overnight.
Reheat gently to your preferred drinking temperature, strain and enjoy.
For a stronger infusion, allow additional extraction time according to preference.
Re-Brewing Your Chaga
Chaga chunks can be brewed more than once.
After straining, retain the pieces and use fresh water for another extraction. Repeat while the Chaga continues to produce a satisfying flavour and colour.
A deep brown infusion is characteristic of Chaga tea, although colour alone does not reliably indicate the concentration or potency of its active constituents.
For a richer brew, add approximately ½ tablespoon of fresh dried Chaga to the next batch.
To maintain freshness, refrigerate prepared Chaga tea promptly and use within 3–4 days. Do not leave used Chaga chunks soaking at room temperature for extended periods or reuse them over several weeks.
Chaga Iced Tea
Prepare Chaga tea using the traditional slow-brewing method, strain and allow to cool.
Refrigerate promptly and serve chilled, or use the prepared tea as a base for smoothies and other cold beverages.
