Organic Milk Thistle Seeds
Ask a QuestionOrganic Milk Thistle Seeds – Whole Silybum marianum
Organic Milk Thistle Seeds are whole seeds of Silybum marianum, sourced from Croatia and India. Used in European herbal traditions for centuries, milk thistle is best known for its long-standing association with liver and gallbladder health and remains one of the most recognizable traditional liver herbs.
Milk Thistle is traditionally used in Herbal Medicine to help support liver and gallbladder function and to support digestion. Its traditional uses have also included digestive complaints such as indigestion, gas, bloating and loss of appetite.
Naturally Contains Silymarin
Milk Thistle seeds naturally contain a group of plant compounds collectively known as silymarin. Silymarin includes several flavonolignans, including silybin, and is one of the primary reasons Milk Thistle has become such a widely studied botanical.
Our product is the whole dried seed rather than a standardized or concentrated extract. This distinction is important: standardized Milk Thistle extracts are manufactured to provide specified concentrations of silymarin, while whole seeds retain the naturally occurring composition of the botanical ingredient.
Why Whole Milk Thistle Seeds?
Our Milk Thistle Seeds are offered whole, allowing you to see the natural quality and condition of the ingredient and grind or crush only what you need.
For herbal preparations, lightly crushing or grinding the seeds immediately before use exposes the interior of the seed. The seeds can also be freshly ground and incorporated into foods.
Milk Thistle Seeds have a mild, earthy and slightly nutty character. Unlike strongly aromatic herbal teas, the flavour is relatively subtle.
