Thyme Leaf from Turkey – Aromatic Mediterranean Herb

Thyme Leaf is a beautifully fragrant Mediterranean herb celebrated for its bold aroma, distinctive flavour and centuries-old culinary heritage. Sourced from Turkey, our Thyme Leaf offers the characteristic warm, earthy and gently peppery notes that make this botanical a favourite in traditional cooking and herbal preparations.

With its naturally aromatic character and remarkable versatility, Thyme is equally suited to savoury dishes, Mediterranean seasoning blends and fragrant herbal infusions.

Pure Thyme Leaf, with nothing added.

A Mediterranean Herb with a Rich History

Thyme has been appreciated throughout the Mediterranean for thousands of years, where its fragrant leaves have played an important role in culinary traditions, botanical preparations and cultural customs.

A member of the mint family, Lamiaceae, Thyme grows naturally in warm, sunny environments and is recognized for its small, highly aromatic leaves.

In ancient Greece and Rome, Thyme was associated with courage, strength and purification. Its fragrance was appreciated in traditional household preparations and ceremonial practices.

Over time, Thyme became an essential ingredient in European cooking, particularly throughout the Mediterranean, where it remains one of the region's most recognizable culinary herbs.

Thyme in Traditional European Herbalism

Thyme has a longstanding history in European and Mediterranean herbal traditions, where it has been valued for its aromatic character and traditional associations with respiratory and digestive well-being.

Historically, Thyme Leaf was prepared as an infusion and incorporated into seasonal herbal preparations, particularly during colder months.

Its warming, aromatic nature also made it a familiar ingredient in traditional after-meal herbal teas.

These associations reflect historical herbal practices rather than established therapeutic effects of Thyme tea.

Naturally Occurring Botanical Compounds

Thyme contains naturally occurring aromatic compounds, including thymol and carvacrol, which contribute to its characteristic fragrance and flavour.

The leaves also contain flavonoids and phenolic compounds, including rosmarinic acid, which have attracted scientific interest for their antioxidant properties.

The proportions of these constituents vary according to the botanical species, growing conditions and preparation method.

Laboratory research involving Thyme essential oil or concentrated extracts should not be considered equivalent to the effects of drinking a traditional Thyme infusion.

A Classic Mediterranean Culinary Herb

Thyme is celebrated for its ability to complement a wide variety of savoury dishes without overwhelming their natural flavours.

Its earthy, gently peppery character pairs beautifully with roasted vegetables, potatoes, legumes, soups, stews and tomato-based dishes.

Dried Thyme Leaf is particularly useful in slow-cooked recipes, where its aromatic qualities develop gradually.

It also combines beautifully with Rosemary, Oregano, Basil and Sage in traditional Mediterranean seasoning blends.

Aromatic Thyme Herbal Tea

Beyond the kitchen, Thyme Leaf can be prepared as a fragrant herbal infusion.

The resulting tea offers a pleasantly robust aroma, warm herbal character and gently peppery finish.

Thyme may be enjoyed on its own or blended with Lemon Balm, Spearmint or Lemon Peel for a brighter, more delicate infusion.
