Tulsi Guayusa Tea – Holy Basil & Amazonian Guayusa

Tulsi Guayusa Tea brings together two remarkable leaves from very different herbal traditions: aromatic Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, and Guayusa, a naturally caffeinated Amazonian leaf traditionally enjoyed in Ecuador. The result is a fresh, balanced tea with gentle natural caffeine and a smooth herbal character.

Tulsi has been treasured for centuries in Ayurveda, where it is regarded as an important adaptogenic herb and traditionally associated with resilience, vitality and general well-being. Its naturally aromatic leaves bring a distinctive herbal character to the blend.

Guayusa is something quite different. Ilex guayusa is a species of holly native to the upper Amazon region and has a long history of cultivation and use among Indigenous communities in Ecuador. Unlike most herbal leaves, Guayusa naturally contains caffeine and has traditionally been prepared as an invigorating morning drink.

What Makes Guayusa Special?

Guayusa is naturally caffeinated, yet its flavour is notably smooth and mild, without the pronounced bitterness or tannic character associated with many traditional caffeinated teas. The leaves naturally contain caffeine along with polyphenols and other plant compounds.

Although Guayusa is often prepared and enjoyed like an herbal tea, it is not derived from the Camellia sinensis tea plant. Its natural caffeine comes directly from the leaves of Ilex guayusa, a botanical relative of yerba mate.

Together, Tulsi and Guayusa create an aromatic, refreshing cup that combines the distinctive character of Holy Basil with the gentle lift of naturally occurring caffeine. It is an excellent choice for mornings, afternoons or whenever you want a lighter alternative to coffee or traditional black tea.
