Organic Marshmallow Root Powder – Althaea officinalis

Organic Marshmallow Root Powder is finely ground from the dried root of Althaea officinalis, sourced from the USA. Rich in naturally occurring mucilage, marshmallow root has a long history in Western herbalism as a demulcent herb traditionally used for irritated tissues of the throat and digestive tract.

Marshmallow root is traditionally used in Herbal Medicine as a demulcent to help relieve irritation of the oral and pharyngeal mucosa and associated dry cough, and to help relieve mild inflammation of the gastrointestinal mucosa, including gastritis.

Naturally Rich in Mucilage

One of the defining characteristics of marshmallow root is its naturally occurring mucilage — plant polysaccharides that become slippery and gel-like when combined with water. This characteristic is responsible for both the distinctive texture of prepared marshmallow root and its long-standing traditional use as a demulcent herb.

Because mucilage extracts particularly well in cool water, marshmallow root is traditionally prepared as a cold infusion rather than brewed like an ordinary hot herbal tea.

Medicinal ingredient per 1 teaspoon serving:
Althaea officinalis (Marshmallow root powder) – 3 g

Recommended dose (Adults 18 years and older): 1 teaspoon, 1–3 times per day. 6–15 g dried root per day. Do not exceed 5 g per single dose.

Cold Infusion: Add 1 teaspoon (approximately 3 g) of Marshmallow Root Powder to 150 ml of cold water. Allow to steep for 30 minutes, stirring frequently. Strain and warm gently if desired before drinking.
