Ingredients: *Elderberries, dried
Botanical name: Sambucus nigra
Considered one of the top antiviral herbs, Elderberries are an ancient remedy dating back to prehistoric times.
They can support the immune system and help shorten the duration of cold & flu. Elderberries improve heart health by reducing cholesterol, uric acid and blood sugar levels.
Elderberries are used to make tinctures, cordials and wine as well as in cooking & baking.
Suggested Use: Elderberry tea can be made by simmering 1 tablespoon berries per cup of water. Simmer for 10-15 minutes. Could also be a good addition to your herbal tea blends.
Homemade Elderberry Syrup:
Simmer berries for 45-60 minutes, once the water is reduced to about 1/2, strain the liquid, squeezing the berries with a wooden spoon. Allow the liquid to cool.
Use approx 1 cup berries per 4 cups of water
After the liquid has cooled, add raw honey to sweeten
Add a cinnamon stick, 2-4 cloves, and/or a piece of dried ginger to the simmering pot
Store in a jar in the refrigerator up to 2 months.
