Cat’s claw is a vine that has hook-like thorns similar to the claws of a cat. Native to tropical climates in Central and South America, cat’s claw bark has been a part of indigenous healing traditions for thousands of years, used as traditional medicine by indigenous peoples in the Andes to treat inflammation, rheumatism, gastric ulcers, dysentery, tumors and also helping the body get rid of excess water and to stimulate the immune system..

Cat's claw has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and been used traditionally for centuries to treat arthritis, intestinal complaints and wounds. One of the most impressive effects of cat’s claw is its scientifically proven ability to repair DNA. It has components such as tannins and sterols that help reduce inflammation, and elements such as quinovic acid glycosides that fights viruses.

Cat’s claw is also used to treat a wide array of digestive disorders, including crohn's disease, colitis, diverticulitis, gastritis, hemorrhoids, stomach ulcers and leaky gut syndrome. The tea made from Cat's Claw can also be used as an eye rinse for eye infections.

Fun fact: Cat's claw has been added to Ayahuasca brew to provide a beneficial effect to the immune system.

Suggested use: Add 3 grams of Cat's Claw (a pinch or about 2 tsp) per 1.5 cup of cold water so you're left with a cup of tea after boiling down. Bring bark & water to a gentle boil for 10 minutes, remove from heat until cool enough to drink. Strain and enjoy.

Tip: It's generally recommended to add the herb to cold water and then heat it together until it boils. This allows the flavours and properties of the herb to infuse into the water as it heats up. Boiling the herb directly in boiling water can sometimes result in a bitter taste. So, start with cold water, add the Cat's Claw bark, and then gradually heat it to a boil for a more flavourful tea. For a stronger tea, boil for 20 minutes.

Optional flavourings: Add honey, lemon, or other herbs like mint to enhance the flavour of the tea.
