Traditionally, Cacao fruit was eaten or fermented into alcohol and vinegar before the method of grinding and roasting the seeds was introduced. The traditional medicinal uses for Cacao were as a treatment for fatigue, support in weight gain when using the butter, softening skin, as an antiseptic for killing microbes around fresh wounds and as a snake bite remedy. Theobroma cacao has been found to contain 26 anti-inflammatories, an astringent and 5 vacoconstrictors as well as antiseptic properties. The many beneficial properties of cacao are destroyed when processed thus using raw cacao is essential.
